LED Light Bar: New Technology

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are compact devices that generate light by passing electricity through a semiconductor. The semiconductor emits photons, which humans perceive as ordinary light. LEDs are compact and very efficient. They use significantly less electricity than comparable incandescent bulbs. An LED bulb lasts for over 50,000 hours, sometimes 60,000 hours depending on the bulb. LEDs are easier to handle and require no maintenance beyond replacing the bulb when it finally burns out. LEDs have many uses in both industrial and commercial applications. Perhaps one of the most useful applications is in law enforcement and emergency work.

Incandescent bulbs may be cheaper, but they burn out faster and need to be replaced more frequently. The old design of eminence lights was bulky and weighty. A single stationary bulb provided the light, while a rotating half-mirror broke up the light into flashes. The motor beneath the mirror added weight to the apparatus, which was mounted externally and added to the air resistance of the car or truck. LEDs solved all of these problems by allowing for new, streamlined designs like light bars. Rows of LED bulbs are arranged into the shape of a rectangle, encased in plastic and topped off with a clear plastic lid.

LED bulbs can generate any color depending on the material used in the semiconductor. There is no need for a colored casing with these energy-efficient powerhouses. A small amount of electricity can produce a large amount of light that is very bright and impossible to ignore. LED light bars can be designed in multiple ways to fit the maximum number of mounting possibilities on vehicles. Some light bars are so compact that they are just about flush with the vehicle surface taking wind resistance to almost zero.

Concealment is also easier with LED light bars. They can be mounted in unusual places depending on their size and shape. Some can be placed inside radiators, on side mirrors, on the backside of the rear-view mirror or on the roof of the car. The ability to mount an LED light bar almost anywhere makes for a very versatile tool that helps emergency workers and police officers do their jobs. The ideal is a light source that turns on and shines a powerful beam of brightness in front of the vehicle. LED light bars do just that, providing officers and workers with the perfect technological aid on the road.
