LED Emergency Light Bars
Law enforcement and emergency work has depended on adequate lighting for members and vehicles since the beginning of the modern era. The automobile replaced the horse-drawn carriage and the incandescent bulb replaced the old candlelit lantern. As technology improved over the last century, automobiles and lights became much more efficient. Lights did not become so efficient that they did not surmount the various issues that cropped up from time to time. Incandescent bulbs needed to be replaced. The old design was to have a stationary bulb surrounded by a rotating half-mirror. The half-mirror broke up the light beam into a series of flashes as it spun.
The assembly was encased in a red or blue plastic cover. This set-up was heavy and added to the air resistance of the vehicle. The repair measures that had to be taken every time something broke could be cumbersome. Finally, the introduction of the light-emitting diode (LED) fundamentally transformed the nature of emergency vehicle lighting. LEDs are much more cost-effective than incandescent light bulbs. A single LED bulb can last for up to 60,000 hours, while a comparable incandescent bulb lasts for only 1,500 hours.
This means if an LED bulb is left on constantly for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the LED bulb would last six years before needing to be replaced. Their small, compact design enables them to be fitted together into a variety of shapes. A popular type of shape is the LED emergency light bar. Rows of LEDs are formed into the shape of a rectangle. The LEDs themselves can be fitted with a variety of colored plastic heads, most commonly red or blue. The assembly is encased in tough, durable plastic that is also very lightweight. Topped off with a clear plastic lid, the LED emergency light bar can be mounted almost anywhere on a vehicle.
Moreover, because the light bar weighs much less than the old design, they can be made in such a way to be almost perfectly flush with the vehicle. This not only eliminates wind resistance, it also allows for concealment. Hidden inside radiators, dashboards or side mirrors, LED emergency light bars help police officers and emergency workers do their jobs. Police departments love them because they help officers do their jobs. Emergency personnel love them because they cost less and are much easier to repair. LED emergency light bars are win-win situation for everyone concerned.
